We supported T.R.U.S.T. South LA’s preservation of existing affordable housing by exploring the possibility of adding or legalizing Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on properties within their current portfolio. 


Feasibility ADU Option


Community Land Trusts (CLTs) can acquire and hold affordable properties, including providing maintenance and operations. T.R.U.S.T. South LA is a CLT operating in South Los Angeles.

Our next step will be to partner on designing and building the units to fit the neighborhood character and tenants’ housing needs.

We know that there are many paths and levers to address the housing crisis in Los Angeles. One channel is to actively protect and preserve housing units that are already affordable to current tenants.

To support their preservation work, we produced two feasibility reports exploring the possibility of building additional, affordable Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). These units would meet current tenants’ expectations and be in-line with City requirements for infill housing.
