Atwater, Los Angeles, CA
We designed a garage conversion ADU in northeast Los Angeles, adding a two bedroom home in the backyard of an existing house.
Tucked behind a home in Atwater Village, we designed a new garage conversion ADU where we tapped into our client’s enthusiasm for color, illustration, and ornament and took a deep dive into neo-Victorian-inspired aesthetics.
By revisiting form, materiality, and geometry, this project has taken our previous work transforming garages into more than just affordable housing; we’re making them vibrant, character-filled places that challenge conventional notions of what an ADU can be.
We incorporated expandable footprints, multifunctional furnishings, and clever storage solutions to create spaces that are efficient, comfortable, and expressive. Each detail and finish has been thoughtfully considered, allowing us to honor the structure’s origins and context while giving it new life as a welcoming home.
The project has since received permit approvals, a contractor has been selected, and construction is now underway!
