OOO is partnering with the City of South Pasadena to create an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) program that will offer residents pre-approved ADU plans, streamlining the permitting process and reducing costs for applicants.
California’s AB 1332 requires local agencies to establish a Pre-Approved ADU Program for detached accessory dwelling units. OOO is designing three ADU plans that will have three style options that fit the architectural character and neighborhood form of South Pasadena. These plans will address community needs, prioritize the rich architectural residential styles of South Pasadena, and create new housing options for growing and multigenerational families.
To ground our designs in South Pasadena’s context, we conducted analysis of ADU permit data, a city tour of ADUs, and focus groups with residents and professionals. From these engagements, we identified three guiding principles: 1. Preserving South Pasadena Architectural Character, 2. Providing Flexibility and Accessible Use, and 3. Prioritizing Affordability.
The plans will also be accompanied by an ADU Guidebook to help interested homeowners navigate the ADU permitting and building process.
