Working in partnership with the City of South Gate, we launched an ADU Program to remove barriers to housing construction for residents. The program included bilingual workshops and educational materials, a Permit-Ready plan for a new construction one-bedroom ADU, and a set of Garage Conversion Standard Plans.

We identified two homeowners interested in converting their garages to participate in a pilot program with the Standard Plans.
In 2025, we successfully pushed the permits for both ADUs through plan check and received approval.
Homeowner Technical Assistance Site Visit
ADU Design Options
The Permit-Ready Plan is for a 460 square foot one-bedroom backyard unit. Participating homeowners benefit from reduced pre-development costs, a streamlined design, and expedited permitting process.
The three Garage Conversion Standard Plans ease the financial and educational burden on interested homeowners ahead of the permitting process.
