2024
West Adams, Los Angeles, CA
We addressed traffic violence along West Adams Boulevard by developing a community-informed, pedestrian-focused intervention.
This intervention demonstrated how local assets can drive street transformation and support mobility justice.
As part of Sites of Repair, our public space initiative funded by SCAG’s Go Human grant, we researched and addressed the disproportionate impacts of traffic violence along a segment of West Adams Boulevard between Orange Drive and La Brea Avenue.
Through site analyses, walk audits, interviews with local business owners, and workshops with transportation leaders, we developed a pedestrian-focused intervention rooted in a deeper understanding of the corridor’s historical and socio-spatial challenges.
This first iteration of work was guided by a concept we called Storybook of Streets, which visualized how community assets could drive transformation and healing—not only at the intersection, but across the surrounding urban ecologies.
We finalized a set of activities to inform the physical design and compiled a catalog of learnings to guide both this intervention and future efforts.
