2024
Northeast & Southeast Los Angeles, CA
We supported research and engagement on equitable development along the LA River.
In partnership with Professor Jon Christensen at the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability at UCLA, our Associate Urban Planner Olivia Arena conducted research and engagement on equitable development along the LA River in Northeast and Southeast Los Angeles.
Through conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis of conditions along the LA River, the goal of the work was to combat green gentrification as projects, like the 100 Acre Park, develop adjacent to the waterway.
Research efforts included a scan of housing stability and workforce development programs in cities in Southeast LA County. The team also worked in collaboration with the LA Regional Open Space and Affordable Housing coalition (LA ROSAH) on identifying strategies that the City, parks departments, or community-based organizations could implement that would help NELA residents thrive in place amidst rapid speculation and displacement pressures.
