We are guided by a strategic plan that clarifies our intended impact and programmatic avenues, as a practice of reparative urban development.

Our Mission

We design spaces, projects, programs, and policy frameworks for communities affected by inequities in the built environment.

Our Vision

We envision a future of resident-directed development, community networks, and abundant resources for neighborhoods.

Process

These are the steps we take in each project to thoughtfully create change in the built environment:

Approaches

  • In being accountable of our own positionality, we challenge the traditional roles of architects and planners to transition power to communities over time.
  • We affirm community by advocating for resident stories to influence changes to urban systems, processes and physical space.
  • Our organizational structure as an interdisciplinary team, and our focus on cross-sector collaboration, is to bring cohesion and flexibility to current, disconnected urban processes.

Guiding Principles

The Public’s Right to Space

We focus on community strategy at different scales of the built environment for systems change. Through the design of spaces, processes, and policy we assert the public’s right to space.

Our value is as intermediaries

We navigate systems of government & bureaucracy, translate policy, and challenge development procedures that are designed to undermine community agency.

Work Areas

Our Program Areas are “Public Space”, which is inclusive of “Housing”, “Storefronts”, and “Transportation”.
