2014
Elysian Valley, Los Angeles, CA
We designed educational materials to engage the community of Elysian Valley on housing and economic issues.
The Elysian Valley Knowledge Hubs addressed issues of affordable housing and economic stability in Frogtown, a neighborhood that was undergoing a period of rapid change. The Knowledge Hubs were designed to include residents traditionally underrepresented in similar community efforts.
The first phase of the project was an engaging series of educational workshops led by trained, local community leaders, known as ‘Hub Leaders’. The workshops covered a full range of housing-related issues — from supporting renters and landlords unsure of their rights and responsibilities to guiding residents who wanted to understand financial basics.
We designed, fabricated, and installed 5 permanent bulletin boards in front of each Hub Leader’s home to serve as information sharing centers that engaged a wider audience.
